Percussion Instrument Pakhawaj


Pakhawaj is a cylindrical two-faced wooden drum with both ends covered with skin.It is played with the fingers and palms of both hands,the right hand surface is tuned to the pitch required( kali ek/kali don etc.)and left hand surface provides the base. pakhawaj is uesd to accompanies been kathak dancers and classical vocal music like dhrupad and it is also used in bhajan performances.

Tala it is a part of language and the spoken cadences of poetry.It is defined in terms of matras in repeating cycles of beats that exposed to a stressed point called the sam down to a release point called khali.Some well-known and commenly uses talas are chautal,adital,dadra,jhaptal,dhammar,ektal,rupak,sultal,sawari,tintal,rajmartanda,rudratal,vishwatal etc.
